Lee Roy Selmon's existence is a combination of football scholarships, family involvement as well as community involvement. In the first place Selmon was raised by Lucious as well as Jessie Selmon, on a farm near Eufala within Oklahoma as the youngest of the nine children they had. He played second in football and was one of three brothers who were players for Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. They made the All-America team in 1973. Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the starters for one year. Lee Roy was named the best offensive lineman in the United States by Outland as well as Lombardi Awards. During his three years as Oklahoma's starting quarterback and Sooners' starting quarterback, they went 32-1-1 and won two national championships. In 1975, he received his third scholarship and was named the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon obtained his degree in education. Lee Roy spent ten hours every week in volunteer work in his college days. Then he settled in Tampa after college, was a member of the Buccaneers for a period of nine years, and was three-times all-pro. His career in business began. In 1988, he was an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked on the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as a member of the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of America's top 10 young males. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and was a tall of 7-foot-2. In his time at for college, he was the head coach of the 1975 team. In 1993 he was appointed assistant director of the University of South Florida. In 1988, Selmon was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. In addition, he was inducted into his way into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented its Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Jr. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor that made the award.
