Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton was born on January 19, 1946, in Locust Ridge Tenn. She lived with twelve other kids. Her imaginative mind allowed her to escape the pressures of daily life. The songs she wrote were composed before she could read and write. After getting her first guitar at the age of eight, she started performing on radio stations in Knoxville in Tennessee. That same year she made her debut recording for Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. In high school she was able to establish herself within the school community but her dream was greater. The day after she graduated in 1964, she relocated to Nashville. Her first charting hits for Monument Records included Dumb Blonde and Something Fishy both in 1967. Porter Wagoner had been looking for female performers for his show that was syndicated in the years prior to this. Parton was hired in 1967 and signed by RCA Records by 1968, she joined the Grand Ole Opry. In 1974, she quit Wagoner's Show because the success of her solo songs like Joshua Coats Of Many Colors or Jolene was outstripping their joint releases. Parton's hit song, I'll Never Be Loved by You (for Wagoner), was able to reach the top of the. 1 spot after they split. Its first appearance at the top spot was in 1974.
