Arianna Huffington
Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington (Greek American) is a Greek American writer, syndicated-columnist as well as a businesswoman. She's the co-founder and CEO of Thrive Global, as well being the author of 15 books. Arianna Huffington is a writer, philanthropist TV personality, and the owner of the online, independent newspaper The Huffington Post. Her birthplace was in Greece and immigrated to England in the year 16. At Cambridge University, she graduated with an MA of Economics. As the first non-English speaking student to graduate, she was voted president of The Cambridge Union' at the age of 21. Following graduation, she left her mark as an independent syndicated columnist, and, with the advent of The Huffington Post' few years later, she developed an online voice platform that included critical comments regarding the state of affairs. Her site was able to bring in numerous prominent contributors who shared their opinions on culture and politics. Arianna became famous after she announced in 2003 that she would run as an Independent Candidate in the California Recall Election in order to replace Governor Davis. Apart from this she also managed an Detroit project that promoted vehicles that are fuel efficient. Forbes classified her as the 12th most influential woman in the media industry in 2009 and Guardian added her to the Top 100 List of Media the same year. In 2011 AOL Inc. acquired The Huffington Post and made the president of that media company, which also included a number of existing AOL products, such as Engadget AOL music Style list as well as Patch Media. The couple she was born to were journalist and manager Konstantinos and wife Elli Stasinopoulos. Although she was close with her father it was the bond she had with her mother which shaped her character. Her leadership skills were evident from the beginning. When she turned 16 she relocating to the United Kingdom to pursue her study and then enrolled in Girton College Cambridge. She was a member of in the Cambridge Union college debate society during her time at college, where she was the 3rd and only female to hold the position of the president. In 1972, she graduated with an MA in Economics. In the years following the graduation ceremony, she became a TV host and columnist. She also appeared in an edition of Face the music along with Bernard Levin and began writing books after receiving editorial advice from the latter.
